With the recent release of the retina displays, Apple has brought high density screens to all of the product categories in its current lineup, significantly paving the way for the next wave of display standards. At D4design Studios we always try to push the envelope and stay ahead of the latest technology trends. That’s why we introduce “Retina Ready Websites”. A Website that will meet the new standards set by Apple and other companies.
What is “Retina”?
Retina refers to a screen whose pixels are so closely packed that, when held at a ‘normal’ distance to a persons face, the human eye won’t be able to make out individual pixels. Apple is currently using this technology in all of its newly released devices such as: Mac, iPad, iPod and iPhone. Other tech companies have developed similar screens such as the Super AMOLED Display by Samsung.
What does this mean for Website owners?
The answer to this question is quite simple: Website owners must optimize their websites to meet the new standard “Retina Ready”. Websites must able to accommodate the larger pixel density.
What are the features of a Retina Ready Website?
A Retina Ready Website will check each image on the page to see if there is a high-resolution version of that image on your server. If a high-resolution variant exists, the Website will swap in that image in-place.
